I recently received a letter from “Lady Justice”-AKA Patti. She is the director of her own group that advocates for inmates and their families – http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Lady-Justice/ – She wrote about how she has noticed, that when men go to prison, there wives or girlfriends usually drift away. She wrote how she felt this was a shame. How if they had stayed involved, might have made a difference in the outcome of his case, and life.

You see, today’s federal courts have only one thing in mind-to keep filling the already full prisons. Even I know that there are sick violent individuals that need to be imprisoned away from society. But, on the other hand, is me, along with thousands of other NON-VIOLENToffenders that have been given draconian like sentences. If we each had an advocate like Patti, things WOULD be different. If enough loved ones of non-violent violent offenders get together and advocate for change, change would happen. I guess that’s why she thinks it’s a shame that wives and girlfriends don’t stick around.

What really amazes me about Patti and the work she does, it that she had no loved ones or family in prison when she decided to get involved-now she has thousands. She started just by communicating with a few inmates and then blossomed into “Lady Justice”. She has helped many inmates with legal, medical, and family issues.

I pen about Patti and prison reform today knowing that the free world comes to the “freegeorge.us” site for a good prison tale. I understand that, people like to be entertained. I know that writing today about Patti and prison reform that the site might not get the hits I need-but that’s ok. I need to not entertain today, but to inform instead. So, Patti, from the depths of my heart, thank you for what you do.

Wake up America-our prisons are full of guys like me that got caught up with drugs (no violence). Our sentences are ridiculas-20-30-40 years, some with LIFE NO PAROLE like I. If America could be drug free from me dying in here I gladly would-what the hell, the government wants me too anyway. But that’s really not the case. See, there are those like me, that have been punished long enough, who could make a difference helping others before they end up here. Hopefully more become involved like Patti has, and maybe, just maybe I will get that chance.
